Argh!! I can't believe CCC is so close! I just wanted to post a quick, very crappy picture of my Firefly Zoe cosplay. I planned on doing the "wide leather belt" version that she wears in "The Train Job" (among other episodes, seen here at Serenify) because I couldn't find the leather vest/shirt nor did I think I could make it at this time.

I found a pair of dark brown pants (capris so that I would have less material to try to shove in a tall boot) and a red knit collared shirt at the Goodwill. I also found a pair of boots, but they don't fit my big fat calves, so they're the last ditch "if I can't find ANYTHING ELSE" option. I won't be able to tuck the pants in, but I took the picture with that look and I don't think it's tooooo bad.

As you might have noticed, though... there is no Wide Leather Belt. The one I ordered from ebay came on time, but it is a lot smaller than I thought and when I tried to stretch it to the desired size, the cheap leather pieces that were sewed into the elastic (think my Donna belt but with leather bits sew over the elastic to try to give it the illusion of leather) popped off and it looked horrible. I've decided that if I'm not totally happy with a costume piece, I'm not wearing it. I'm not going to look bad just for the sake of "authenticity."

So, I'm wearing my corset under the shirt to help with the non-Zoe extra midsection. I think it looks kinda hot, very hourglass Warrior Woman, no? LOL. I'm going to look around at Torrid or Lane Bryant for a plus-size belt, but if not, I'm going without it.

I'm worried thought that the mare's leg rifle toy I ordered isn't going to make it on time! I didn't notice the 2 to 2 1/2 week shipping. 2 weeks would be right before Saturday, but I'm worried it's not going to come. It looks pretty sweet. I'm going to have to do a quickie holster belt, since the one that comes with it will NEVER fit, but we'll do what we can.

Otherwise, I'm just in need of something to do with my hair. I really don't want to wear a wig, but I'm not sure how to get my hair curly, poofy like Zoe's... ideas anyone of my cosplay gods/goddesses? Then I just need to buy a length of cord for her necklace and I think we're good to go.

Whew! Is it Saturday yet?

I still need to get my ticket!!! And my Mal may be using one of my Jack guns instead cuz I so don't have the time or $ to get one. (I don't know, do you think I can get away with wandering around with my Airsoft Magnum .44 on my hip?)

For poofy hair... we can try using my spiral curling iron on it. Maybe Friday night, so that by Saturday the spirals will have relaxed just enough for poofiness?

BTW.. I have a family party on Saturday and my dad has something else before it so he's getting me at 12:45 unless I can figure out a different way home by 2:45 instead. :( It sucks but I don't want to miss my little cousin's college graduation party.

(and yes, this is totally my icon for you and me cosplaying Zoe & Mal!)

I still have to get my ticket too. I always wait til the last minute...

Hmmm... I don't mind driving some of us and parking at the convention center and then we can drop you off at home when you need to. I want you to have as much time at the con as possible! If we all chip in a few bucks, it won't be that bad for just one day. I really don't mind and that way if for some reason they say we can't have our weapons, we have a place to stash them (and any loot we pick up!)

The curling iron might work. I couldn't think of anything besides trying to pin curl it overnight... but I've never done pin curls and I suck at hair... like really suck.

As for the airsoft, here's what it says at the CCC page:

"No real weaponry (live firearms, sharp blades, etc.) may be carried. An Airsoft prop is allowed ONLY if it is legal to carry in the city/state/town that the convention is being held in, there are no BB's loaded into it, and there is no battery installed, or gas loaded. Blaze Orange Tips for Airsofts are required in many states, so be sure that you comply with local laws. No parts of your costume can fire, spray, shoot, or ignite. "

Not sure what Rosemont feels about that, but like I said we can stash our stuff in my car in case of badness.

LOVE THE ICON!! :)

Graham Cracker Comics says they have one day passes for $30, $5 less than at the door, so I was gonna stop there (there's one on Rickert Drive at 75th in Naperville)

That could work, if you don't mind driving. I'd need to be home by 3 so my mom and I can get out to Crown Point by 4-ish. (yeah I gotta drive out to Crown Point, Indiana for this party)

It's probably a good idea to have a place to stash weapons. I know Chicago doesn't allow Airsofts but I don't know if Rosemont has a restriction... Acen doesn't allow them anymore, but they're stricter than Rosemont I think. And I don't even know where the BBs are and I never found out where to get gas!

Pin curling could work... I did that a couple times years ago and it did work. I can do pin curls, they're not too hard. Even less hard when you're not doing them on yourself! That's how I used to put my hair under wigs when it was shoulder-length, just tons of pincurls. And I could do that in about 10 minutes flat too!

I thought ACen banned airsoft because Rosemont did? WHO KNOWS, I just made the assumption, hah.

Or... I could borrow your old Hermione wig? From way back when we first met at ACen? :D I remembered you mentioned that when we first were chatting about Zoe and looking at it in pictures, it might be the best option (and thriftiest, since I'm having a hard time with shoes that fit my huge calves and my gun situation is looking like it might not happen.) Do you still have it?

I say, when in doubt, go without. The last thing we need is Mal getting arrested....despite how in character it would be. They are illegal in IL from what I understand. XD

If you go to the mall, look @ claires or places that sell the hair extentions/tie in ponytails. Sometimes they also have these foam band kits that give hair more poof too. Beware though, sometimes just a piece costs just as much as a wig...so look around.

Curling would work, but take alot of time. My hair WILL NOT ever did what her hair does, so if your hair holds curl its worth a try. :3

Perhaps you could have fake money as a prop instead of a gun if you don't get it in time? Hmm, I'll have to think on that.

But I think your costume is looking great so far! I have to alter my dress today. XD Getting there!
